The Association has dedicated a major portion of its membership publication All - Terrain News to these topics by identifying how riders can obtain education materials and related information . In addition , we have worked throughout the United States to promote the development of user clubs and organizations to facilitate the circulation of informa tion to ATV enthusiasts .

The AATVA has also been a major source of information for ATV riders regarding appropriate riding sites in the United States . The Association has made available to its members a publication developed by the AMA , Trail Riding in America , which includes information on all approved public riding sites in the United States . The AMA recently received recognition by President Reagan for Trail Riding in America for its contributions toward promoting responsible ORV use .

Recommendations for Action

The AATVA shares the concern of the CPSC and Congress regarding three - wheel , ATV - related injuries . We strongly support efforts to increase the awareness of ATV owners as to the responsi bilities associated with motorized recreation , through the distri bution of readily available , easy - to - understand informational materials . We strongly support the development of education programs to be made available to ATV purchasers who desire addi tional instructions on safe ATV operation .

We do not oppose the development of appropriate voluntary ATV design standards which can be shown to reduce ATV injuries , providing that those standards do not negate the ATV performance characteristics , which purchasers find most attractive .
