Mr . HAGIE . Let me , perhaps I would like to elaborate a little bit . We would like to say that we have always had children - related la beling on our products . Since the beginning we have had the warn ings and cautions about children requiring adult supervision . With the concerns raised by the CPSC and with our interest in trying to work toward a solution to this , when we learned of Honda ' s deci sion to go to age labeling we were also very seriously considering such a step . Between the CPSC and Honda , that pretty much pushed us over the edge , and we made the commitment at that time to go ahead , even though the selection of the particular age is kind of an arbitrary thing .

Mr . CRAIG . Thank you . Mr . Glynn , I didn ' t mean to cut you off , but I wanted to ask that question across the panel .

Mr . GLYNN . That is all right . Mr . CRAIG . Go ahead .

Mr . GLYNN . Also , we invited the CPSC Commissioners to ride the vehicles prior to their hearing in October . Mr . CRAIG . Did they ?

Mr . GLYNN . They were busy and they were not able to , but they did send staff , and we appreciated that .

Mr . CRAIG . Do you know if any of the Commissioners , and that was another question that I was going to ask this morning of the two Commissioners that were available .

Mr . GLYNN . I can only judge by the - I listened to the testimo nies . And I compliment Ms . Dawson , because she took the time , went with her son and went riding , and I appreciate that effort on her part . I know she did .

Mr . CRAIG . Well , I would ask that of the others . It would not be fair to assume in this case .

Mr . GLYNN . OK , we brought Mr . Takeuchi from Japan to meet with the engineers at CPSC to explain , you know , the basic seven concepts of the design , why it was designed the way it is , and why it is a safe design and carefully considered , the principles of the design . By the way , we offered to do that for this Commission as well .

Mr . CRAIG . You did make that offer to this Commission ?

Mr . GLYNN . We made the offer , but I guess schedules or what ever .

And then , I just want to remind you — I did go through this . But prior to the CPSC investigation we had begun many safety steps you know , safety information , safety materials , films - and I believe we have continued that ; in fact , intensified that as we have gotten more indepth information about the increase in accidents .

Mr . CRAIG . Let me ask this question , then , and I think I should direct it at you again , Mr . Glynn , or to all of you if you wish to respond .

Have you seen the questionnaire that CPSC will use to conduct its epidemiology study ?

Mr . GLYNN . I , personally , haven ' t . We received that April 26 , and appreciated that opportunity . We had a week or so , I guess about that much time . We used our marketing specialist to analyze the

y and flew to Washington and met with the CPSC staff . Mr . CRAIG . Were you allowed to comment ? Mr . GLYNN . Yes ; we were allowed to comment .
