Honda Amigo - Replacement Carb?

Gestart door Jeff Brand, woensdag 04 april 2012 - 01:10

Peter van Geelen.

Hi Jeff and welcome back!

We have had a member here with the same issue recently. Did not want to pass the 40km mark and the engine felt like it was stalling. Or was stalling actually.
In dutch: http://www.4-stroke.net/forum/index.php/topic,6960.msg77985.html#msg77985

In short: replacing the capacitor and breaker-points did the trick! Maybe for you too?

I think I'm having very different symptoms from the other poster. I don't run for a long time at a high speed and then lose power. It almost seems like my top speed is limited by the hesitation. I will look at the points again. I think they were in good condition, but I don't recall at the moment.

I'll do some more work to the carb soon and see if I can find a replacement jet. Thanks for the help!

Time to revive this thread!

After riding it a while, I'm realizing that the issue is fuel: It backfires when I let go of the throttle. The carb leaks out the bottom, the seat for the jet is pretty worn. Instead of trying to rebuild and then upjet on an ancient carb I'm looking to purchase this new one. http://www.ebay.com/itm/180912286282?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649

36mm bolt measurements (need to match it up), 15mm opening on the intake side.

It's a great price and there's a return policy as well. If it works, I assume I'll be able to find replacement jets pretty easily. Anything I should look out for?

Peter van Geelen.

That is a pretty decent price indeed! And I always use Keyster kits for carburettor restorations. Though the internets also speaks a lot about how sucky these are, I have never ever had any issues with it. Not for motorcycle carbs and not for moped carbs. So if you need a kit, get a Keyster kit!

The folks at Moped Army think I should stay away from newer Chinese carbs. I'm going to try and get some rebuild kits. Perhaps you can help find a kit over there? :)

I'd like to get a float kit (with the float and spring since I can't manage to adjust it properly to not leak) and a packing kit since that's what includes the seat for the jet.

Got any sites I should check out for the Amigo?

Peter van Geelen.

Hi Jeff!

Sorry for the late reply, but I will have a look around for parts and if you happen to stumble upon good part sources, let it know! :)

Float - 16122-063-004 - http://www.cmsnl.com/products/float_16122063004/ (I may have that in stock, used)
Spring - 16127-063-014 - Not available at CMSNL Perhaps I have it for you (used), but I have to dig into my stock for that. Let me know if you want me to search for it.

For a keyster kit, you could consider the following:
PC50 kit: http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-PC50-KEYSTER-CARB-KIT-1969-1970-/221121479910?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item337bde04e6
PC50 kit (recent models): http://www.ebay.com/itm/HONDA-PC50-PC50K1-PS50-KEYSTER-CARB-KIT-1979-1982-/380468216178?pt=Motorcycles_Parts_Accessories&vxp=mtr&hash=item5895ac4172

Carburettor manual is to be found here: http://www.4-stroke.net/nl/pc50-en-pf50-carburateur

But be aware that there might be differences between the type that connects to the inlet manifold by flange and the type that has the rubber tube connection. PF50 should have the flange connection. I explicitly say "might" because as far as I know, a PC50 kit should just work on a PF50 carb.
